Q: Am I allowed to bring my own horse?
A: Absolutely! The majority of riders come with their own horses, but there are also a few lovely horses available to be hired.
Q: Where are your treks?
A: While I'm currently based in Ward, Marlborough and the majority of rides take place in this area, I also travel to other locations around the South Island. Check out the 'Locations' page.
Q: Do I need trekking experience?
A: No! Neither horse nor rider need trekking experience, although if that is the case then it's recommended to start with a shorter ride or come for a trekking lesson.
Q: What do I need to bring?
A: For multi-day rides a detailed gear list will be sent out prior to make packing easy. For day rides you'll just need to make sure you wear suitable enclosed footwear.
Q: What happens if the weather is bad?
A: A bit of wind or rain won't be enough to stop us, but anything extreme and the ride will be cancelled and a full refund given or a credit can be arranged.
Q: Are these rides suitable for complete beginners?
A: No. At least a basic level of skill is needed.
Q: How can I find your upcoming treks?Â
A: A list of upcoming rides can be found on the bookings page. If you have a group wanting to organise different dates then please get in touch and I can do my best to arrange something. Email is preferred: info@sophieshorsetreks.co.nz
Day rides:
50% deposit due at time of booking. The remainder to be paid in full before your ride.
Multi-day rides:
$100 deposit due at time of booking. The remainder to be paid in full 3 weeks before the ride date.
All deposits are non-refundable except in the event where the ride can not go ahead, due to weather, staff illness, etc. In this case a full refund or credit will be given. Full payment is non-refundable within 3 weeks. If you can find someone to take your space then it can be transferred.
Why is this? These rides have been carefully curated months in advance, with accomodation, landowner access, food and other expenses all pre organised. Running as a small business and only taking small groups on treks, there are tight profit margins and if these spaces are not filled then it is not viable.
